When New York's YES Network ended its 12 year of simulcasting The
Mike Francesa radio show earlier this month, many sports media junkies
figured the simulcast would remain locally on another New York based
regional sports network.
Turns out that's not the case. According to a report in Newsday, the simulcast is going national to be shown on Fox Sports 1.
It's not known when the simulcast will begin, but according to the
article, the simuclast could begin in March in time for the college
basketball post season tournaments.
How well a New York
heavy sports talk show will be received nationally is yet to be known.
In addition, Fox Sports 1 has a lot of NASCAR qualifying events. Will
those shift to Fox Sports 2? I suspect that will be the case, but I
don't expect to happen when Fox Sports 1 televises the Big East post season basketball tournament or in 2015 when Fox becomes the TV home for USGA golf
events, including the early rounds of The U.S. Open. Then there are Fox Sports 1 studio shows (Crowd Goes Wild, Fox Football Daily, NASCAR RaceHub, etc.). How will Fox Sports 1 squeeze these shows into the daily schedule when Francesa's show runs from 12p-5:30pm (CT).
I don't see these shows getting shifted to Fox Sports 2 which is considerably less TV homes than Fox Sports 1.
