Controversy Regarding Des Moines Radio Coverage Of The World Series

The Des Moines minor league teams (Cubs, Barnstormers, Wild, Energy, and Bucs) buy the air time to air their games on Central Iowa radio and pay for the time buy selling advertising.  It's a win for local radio stations just like the home shopping & religious pay for carriage on cable & satellite systems.

The Iowa Wild of the AHL have purchased air time on KXNO for the radio broadcast of their games.  KXNO is an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardnails radio network and thought it would be no big deal to shift the World Series broadcast of Game 2 to sister station, WHO.  Evidently not.  Just check out Marty Tirrell's Twitter timeline for proof.

To be honest, if I was the Iowa Wild, I would be giddy to have a Wild game on the night time blowtorch signal that is WHO Radio.  Problem solved.

More Ratings Information On Game 1 Of The World Series

Not only did Fox Sports coverage of Game 1 of The World Series last night win the night in ratings, it also scored big ratings for the key male demographics.

In the men 18-34 demographic, Game 1 generated a 4.6 rating, up 24% from last year.  Men 18-49 earned a rating of 5.4, up 17% from last year.

In addition, fans were tweeting about last night's game as well.  There were nearly 800,000 tweets on Twitter last night, up 6% from Game 1 last year from 360,000 unique Twitter authors.  For more information, visit the Web Site linked above.

NFL TV Tidbits

Here's a link to an article in the SportsBusinessDaily that features several NFL TV tidbits.  Among the items discussed include a potential of a new 8 game TV package, money figures from what NBC & ESPN are paying for their respective prime time package of games, and an update on negotiations between the NFL & DirecTV.  DirecTV's contract for the Sunday Ticket expires at the end of next season.

NBC & NBCSN Team Up For Breeders' Cup

The Breeders' Cup, a fall tradition is rapidly approaching and NBC & NBCSN are teaming up to provide 91/2 hours of coverage between November 1-2.

Coverage begins on Friday, November 1 with 4 hours coverage beginning at 3pm CT.  A new angle this year is bonus coverage during NBCSN's 2pm Notre Dame pregame show.  The Breeders' Cup will end in prime time on NBC beginning at 7pm.

Game 1 Of The World Series Puts Up Big Ratings

From a ratings standpoint, the 2013 World Series is picking up were the league championship series' left off.  Game 1 last night generated an overnight rating of 9.4/16.  This rating is good enough to be up 12% from game 1 last year.

Ratings for this years Fall Classic should be big for every game.

Sunday Night Football Is Off To It's Best Start In 17 Years

Through the first 7 weeks of the NFL Season, NBC's Sunday Night Football is off to the best start ever for an NFL prime time package of telecasts in 17 years.

As expected, the 2013 version of Sunday Night Football is prime time's #1 rated TV show averaging 22.7 million viewers per week.  The last night prime time NFL telecasts saw more viewership was back in 1996 when ABC was televising Monday Night Football and back then, telecasts were averaging 24.8 million viewers.

This past Sunday night match up of Denver visiting Indianapolis registered a rating of 15.9 with 26.9 million viewers, the most watched October NFL prime time telecast.

ESPN's College GameDay Saturday pregame show returns to the West Coast for the 2nd time in 3 weeks with a visit to Eugene, OR for Saturday's top 15 prime time clash between #12 UCLA & #3 Oregon.

This will be College GameDay's 8th visit to Oregon and the second in less than two years when the Ducks played host to Stanford last November.

Game 6 Of The ALCS Puts Up Big Ratings

The Sunday afternoon slate of NFL games are in the book and I noticed some tweets this afternoon from the PR group at Fox Sports regarding the decisive game 6 of the ALCS last night on Fox Sports.

Game 6 last night recorded an overnight rating of 5.5/10, good enough for 9 million viewers, up 20% from last year's game 6 of the NLCS which was on Fox.

In addition, last night's AL Pennant clinching win for Boston was the best rating for Fox in a League Championship Series since game 6 of the 2010 NLCS.

2013 World Series Broadcast Schedule

The ALCS wrapped up last night with Boston winning the AL pennant and I'm sure the executives at Fox are excited for a Fall Classic featuring two teams from rabid baseball cities and with fans all over the country.  This should be a very high rated Fall Classic.  Game 1 is this Wednesday night in Boston.  Below is the schedule and all times are Central.

Game 1:  Wednesday, October 23:  St. Louis @ Boston 7:07pm on KDSM
Game 2:  Thursday, October 24:  St. Louis @ Boston 7:07pm on KDSM
Game 3:  Saturday, October 26:  Boston @ St. Louis 7:07pm on KDSM
Game 4:  Sunday, October 27:  Boston @ St. Louis 7:15pm on KDSM
Game 5:  Monday, October 28:  Boston @ St. Louis 7:07pm on KDSM (if necessary)
Game 6:  Wednesday, October 30:  St. Louis @ Boston 7:07pm on KDSM (if necessary)
Game 7:  Thursday, October 31:  St. Louis @ Boston 7:07pm on KDSM (if necessary)

All games can be heard on ESPN Radio.

2013 NLCS Averages 5 Million Viewers

TBS Sports concluded their coverage of the 2013 MLB Playoffs with the deciding Game 6 of the NLCS Friday night on a strong ratings note.

The 2013 NLCS had an average TV rating of 3.2, up 10% from the 2011 NLCS and averaged 5 million total viewers, an increase of 9% from the 2011 NLCS.  If not for a pair of afternoon games, the ratings and viewership for the NLCS

The decisive game 6 Friday night had 3.7 rating and 6.1 million total viewers.  For more information, visit the Web Site linked above.
