ESPN Viewership Up 13% The Last Month

One month ago today, Fox Sports 1 hit the air and in that time, ESPN's ratings are up 13%.  Now this increase isn't directly related to Fox Sports 1 and it's really not coincidence, either.

Over the last month, you've seen the return of college football and ESPN's NFL studio shows.  In prime time, ESPN is averaging nearly 2.9 millions and on September 7, ESPN had it's most watched regluar season college football Saturday in ESPN history averaging over 5.5 million fans across 15 hours of programming.

ESPN's Monday Night Football season premiere of Philadelphia @ Washington was the most watched since ESPN took over the franchise with a 10.1 rating.

A complete rundown of the ratings is at the link above.

NBC's Sunday Night Football Puts Up Strong Ratings

Last night's Sunday Night Football telecast, despite a one hour weather delay, was able to generate a

"Manning Bowl" Generates High Ratings For CBS

Yesterday's "Manning Bowl" (Denver @ New York Giants) telecast on CBS Sports earned a 17.8/34 rating.  This was the highest rated late afternoon national telecast debut for CBS Sports in 15 years.

This was the highest rated game of yesterday.

Orlando TV Station Apologizes For Airing Jaguars Game

Not exactly Iowa related, but a TV station in Orlando, FL has apologized for airing a Jacksonville Jaguars game yesterday.

The Orlando TV market is deemed a "secondary market" for the Jacksonville NFL team and based on NFL rules, this station is required to carry all Jacksonville road games, and thus couldn't televise the "Manning Bowl" yesterday.

A secondary market is defined as any nearby TV market which is within 75 miles of an NFL stadium, regardless of how far away the studio that is televising the game.  The Mason City/Austin/Rochester TV market is a secondary market for the Minnesota Vikings and is subject to black out in the event a Vikings home game does not sell out.

TV markets like Omaha & Des Moines which are greater than 100 miles from Kansas City are generally not deemed a secondary market for the Chiefs, only the Topeka and St. Joseph TV markets are a secondary market for the Chiefs.
