Shannon Sharpe to take a leave of absence from NFL Today

Not good at all for Shannon and once again the world of sports will enter the court room. Will CBS fill his spot, or just move on with the remaining cast? That remains to be seen.

The Ratings Game

Just another reason why the NFLPA and NFL need to get a new CBA in place ASAP. Check out some of these ratings below. Regardless if there is NFL football in 2011, the league owners are going to get their TV money.

Thursday night opener: Vikings @ Saints was seen by 27.5 million viewers
Sunday Night game: seen by 25.3 million viewers
Green Bay @ Philadelphia: seen by 28 million viewers

TV ratings normally don't include those viewing in sports bars or watch parties in individual homes so these numbers are most certainly higher. Just how are the NFL owners going to get paid in 2011 if there is a lockout? Advertisers certainly aren't going to give the networks money that's for darn sure.

Is there a demand for "national feeds" of RSN's?

The Boston and New York sports teams may be some of the most despised sports teams in the country, however, is there demand for national feeds of the Red Sox owned NESN and Yankee owned YES?

Evidentally, both the Red Sox and Yankees think so as both NESN and YES are rolling out national feeds of their respective networks. Here's the kicker, game coverage of the Red Sox and Bruins on NESN and Yankees and New Jersey Nets will be blacked out. So what then is the point of having national feeds just for pregame and postgame shows as well as specialty shows? Regional Sports Networks are expensive to carry to begin with, even if the national feeds of NESN and YES are added to digital ala-carte packages, will non Boston or New York fans tolerate the added expense?

http://blogs.forbes.com/sportsmoney/2010/09/09/nesn-goes-national/?boxes=businesschannelsections

Oh guess what Mediacom subscribers? The national feed of YES Network has a deal in place with Mediacom, but to my knowledge, YES National hasn't been made available to Mediacom subscribers.
