NHL on Radio & TV across Iowa

The NHL may not have a large fan following in Iowa, but what NHL fans lack in numbers, the make up for it in loyalty. The following is a summary of NHL coverage on radio and TV across Iowa with the regional teams listed first followed by national coverage.

Chicago Blackhawks

Fans of the defending Stanley Cup Champions can watch the Chicago Blackhawks on Comcast SportsNet Chicago. WGN (AM 720) is the radio voice of the Blackhawks and WGN's 50,000 watt clear channel signal blankets most of Iowa once the sun goes down.

Minnesota Wild

In 2010-11, FS North will televise 50 Wild regular season games, with the remaining games being televised over the air in the Twin Cities DMA. WCCO (AM 830) is the flagship station for the Wild Radio Network and with WCCO's 50,000 watt clear channel night signal, Wild fans across Iowa should have no problem picking the Wild on radio. Across Northern Iowa, in addition to WCCO, Wild fans can find Wild broadcasts on several radio stations out of Southern Minnesota.

St. Louis Blues

In 2010-11, KMOX Radio (AM 1120) returns as the flagship station for the St. Louis Blues on radio and with the 50,000 watt clear channel signal of KMOX, Blues fans in Iowa should have no problem tuning in to hear night games on KMOX. On TV, FS Midwest is the exclusive TV home for Blues games. Blues fans in Iowa who have FS Midwest on cable should check local listings for Blues telecasts, especially Saturday night games, as FS Midwest will normally provide a separate college football feed to those who have FS Midwest on cable. DirecTV subscribers will find Blues games on Channel 671 and college football programming on an alternate channel.

National telecasts

VERSUS and NBC along with the NHL Network all return to provide national coverage for the 2010-11 season. VERSUS is expected to televise over 50 games this season as well as provide extensive Stanley Cup playoff coverage. NBC will start their coverage with the New Year's Day Winter Classic and will continue with Sunday afternoon games the rest of the season and will continue throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Finally, for those with Dish Network or DirecTV, The NHL Network is expected to televise over 75 games. In addition, the NHL Network will televise several college hockey games.

NBA on Radio & TV across Iowa

With the NBA regular season right around the corner, the following is a breakdown of the NBA on radio and TV across Iowa, first off is a look at the regional teams.

Chicago Bulls

ESPN 1000 (WMVP) is the flagship station for the Bulls Radio Network and since it's a 50,000 watt clear channel signal, it's signal covers most of Eastern Iowa. In addition to WMVP, Bulls fans in NE Iowa can follow the Bulls on WDBQ (AM 1490) out of Dubuque and in far SE Iowa, Bulls fans can follow the Bulls on WGEM (AM 1440) out of Quincy, IL.

On the TV side, Bulls fans across Iowa with either DirecTV or Dish Network and in Eastern Iowa with Mediacom, can watch the majority of Bulls games on Comcast SportsNet Chicago with a few games on WGN America as well as on either ESPN, TNT, or NBA TV.

Milwaukee Bucks

Fans of the Milwaukee Bucks in NE Iowa can listen to the Bucks on WKTY (AM 580) out of La Crosse or on WQPC (FM 94.3) out of Prairie du Chien. Televised Bucks games on FS Wisconsin is blacked out across much of Iowa.

Fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves in Northern Iowa can listen to Timberwolves games on several Southern Minnesota radio stations including KATE-AM out of Albert Lea, KOLM-AM out of Rochester and KTOE-AM out of Mankato. FS North will televise the majority of Timberwolves games.

Nationally

The ESPN family of networks will televise 90 regular season games, TNT returns with their weekly Thursday night games, All Star weekend coverage, and a full schedule of playoff games, and NBATV will televise upwards of 90 regular season games.
