Another retrans battle and this time, it includes Iowa

Just stumbled upon this tonight, but Dish Network and Fox is locked in a retrans battle that could effect Iowa sports fans who have FS North, FS Midwest as well as their offspring, FS Kansas City and FS Wisconsin and a host of other owned Fox owned networks. The deal expires October 1, and since Fox owns something like 49% of the Big 10 Network, I cann't find any information if this effects Big 10 Network or not.

Dish Network is stingy, very stingy, given Dish Network's previous experience, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Fox owned networks go dark on Dish Network this Friday.

NBC to tape delay all 10 hours of Saturday's Ryder Cup Coverage

Looks like NBC is pulling a card out of their Olympic bag of tricks and will air all 10 hours of Saturday's Ryder Cup Coverage on a tape delayed basis. It's not like the Ryder Cup ranks right up there with Olympic coverage. NBC is able to show the Wimbledon finals live and ESPN shows all rounds of the British Open live, so why not The Ryder Cup? In this information age, who is going to want to sit down and watch golf coverage that is 10 hours old?

BTW, ESPN is airing Friday's Ryder Cup coverage live from 1:30 am-12pm (Central) and will immediately rebroadcast the round in it's entirety. Seriously, 20 solid hours of golf?

Perhaps when Comcast takes over NBC and the Ryder Cup remains on NBC, something can be done so that The Ryder Cup airs live on one of the NBC owned cable networks.

Question is, with it being a college football Saturday, will anyone notice that The Ryder Cup is this weekend?

Texas Rangers to receive $3 billion in new 20-year TV deal

USA Today is reporting that the Texas Rangers and FS Southwest have reached a 20-year, $3 billion TV contract. FS Southwest will pay the Texas Rangers $150 million per year for the next 20 years! Not only is the differential of team salaries out of whack, now we're going to have TV rights out of whack. There's no way teams like Kansas City, Milwaukee, or Pittsburgh could ever get that kind of TV money.
