This might be the end of Iowa Tube Talk

There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to do the blog. Last night was a bad night and it was this morning before I got today's TV listings posted and just now getting to my "alone time" for tonight.

With the start of college basketball looming, I was wondering how I was going to handle the blog as just the sheer amount of televised basketball games from Mid November-early April is enough to make anyone's head spin, not to mention i'm not a hoops junkie and really don't care for basketball on any level of play.

I'll be going home this weekend to Shenandoah, IA to enjoy a weekend of family, food, football, and beer drinking. Hopefully I'll return with my batteries recharged and ready to take this blog forward.

Just how popular is the NFL?

Last night, Monday Night Football on ESPN and the MLB Playoffs on TBS went head to head. The Monday Night Matchup wasn’t great, two teams with small fan bases. In fact last night was the first time Jacksonville wasn’t looking at a home blackout within 75 miles of the stadium in Jacksonville. Compare that to the ALDS, New York vs Texas, two top 10 TV markets. Monday Night Football won the ratings war.

Just another sign that the NFL & NFLPA need to get their labor issues settled.

College football programming note for this weekend

This afternoon, I received e-mail confirmation from WOI-TV that they have received permission from ABC to televise the Nebraska @ Oklahoma St. game on WOI digital subchannel 5.2. This is not the first time WOI has done this as last year, the Nebraska/Kansas game was shown on digital subchannel 5.2 as Iowa/Ohio St. was on ABC.

It may not be in HD, but it is better than nothing, just a few years ago, the only wa to watch the game from the comforts of home was to order ESPN GamePlan for the day or on ESPN3.com.
