"Regular Season" NASCAR points races on Speed Channel?
With NASCAR allowing ABC/ESPN to shift most of the Sprint for the Cup races to ESPN, Fox Sports is pondering a move to whether or not shift some of it's NASCAR races from "over the air" local Fox affiliates to Speed Channel.
According to an article in the Sports Business Journal, Fox would like to make the move prior to the end of it's current TV contract with NASCAR, which expires in 2014. However, Fox is skeptical if the move can happen before then because that would have to make an amendment to the current contract necessary.
You can read the entire article in the link above, however, if this move would happen, it would reflect the growing trend of shifting sports coverage from over the air TV to cable TV, were the networks, in this case Speed Channel, could seek a higher per subscriber cost from cable and satellite providers.
