Turns out that the 2014 NHL Winter Classic tied as the highest-rated NHL regular season game in nearly 40 years.
The overnight rating of 2.5 with an average viewership of 4.4 million is up nearly 20% from the 2012 NHL Classic and ties the 2009 NHL Winter Classic as the higest-rated NHL regular season game since 1975. The six year old Winter Classic has given hockey fans the six most-watched NHL regular-season games.
