Earlier this week, I wrote that the NFL was looking to expand its Thursday Night TV Package to a full 16 weeks and then split the package 50/50 with its new partner.
Today, there is a new twist. Sports Business Daily is reporting that whoever the new partner is, the Thursday night games must be simulcasted on NFL Network. Rumors across the industry is that the NFL Network is getting just over $1.00 per subscriber from all TV & satellite providers and in order to justify this rate, the NFL needs to keep a full slate of games on the NFL Network.
It remains to be seen if potential TV partners will agree to the simulcast and a potential simulcast would have an impact on the asking price the NFL is asking for its Thursday night package of games.
