Fox Sports has released the TV ratings for Sunday's Daytona 500 and NASCAR & Fox Sports officials are pleased with the results.
According to a press release, a total audience of just over 30 million tuned in for the Great American Race, making it the most watched Daytona 500 since the 2008 race and this year's race saw a 13% increase in viewership from last year's race. Peak viewership for the Daytona 500 came during the closing laps with just under 20 million viewers tuning in.
Keep in mind that last year's race was delayed several times with track surface issues, so it's no big surprise that the ratings were up when compared to last year.
Ratings between the season opening race and future races normally tumble, but it remains to be seen whether or not Fox can increase it's season long ratings performance as overall ratings for NASCAR has been in a steady decline the last several years.
